Christmas is really about Christ. This should be self-evident. Yet the Christmas season is so busy with the celebration that we sometimes don’t take time to ponder “This Same Jesus.” IBCS’s service of Lessons & Carols is our traditional time to meditate on Jesus, the Eternal God, Who was present at the creation of the worlds, came in flesh to live among us, lived a sinless life, was crucified for sinners, but rose again, and is coming again.
Using the traditional British Lessons & Carols format, through Scripture lessons and song, this year’s program explores the intense emotions of players in the Christmas story: a tender ballad of the first-time mother, the joyful celebration of all the heavens as Jesus' birth is announced, the majestic pageantry of the three magi, the shocking violence and heartbreaking tragedy of the adversary trying to destroy the Messiah though Herod’s slaughter of the infants, and the triumph of our Lord’s ultimate victory.
Join the combined musical ensembles of International Baptist College & Seminary as we wonder again at the marvels of Christmas. Two identical performances will be presented on Thursday, December 4, at 10:00 a.m., and Friday, December 5, at 7:00 p.m., in the Tri-City Baptist Church Lobby. Musical highlights include the Handbell Choir playing the prelude to the service, the College Choir singing familiar carols, and the IBCS Chamber Singers presenting selections from Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols with harp.
